AFAN Chairman Lauds FG On Distribution Of Food Items To Flood Victims

Chief Alfred Eneh, the Enugu State Chairman of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), has commended the Federal Government for the distribution of food items to flood victims.
He gave the commendation in Enugu on Monday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Eneh also applauded the provision of fast yielding seedlings to farmers, whose farmlands were swept away by the ravaging flood.
According to him, such provisions would cushion the effects of the devastation on the victims and help in ensuring food sufficiency and security.
”With this food distribution and early provision of agricultural inputs, farmers will be encouraged to go back to their farms to start all over again.
”This is a welcome development, a sign of good things that will happen in the agriculture sector and an indication that the government is determined to give agriculture the desired attention.
”It will go a long way in cushioning the effect of the flood, restore hope to farmers, guarantee that food will be available and in abundance next year,” he said.
The chairman urged the state government to ensure that the real victims benefited from the largesse by creating a committee to handle the distribution to avoid diversion.
Eneh urged the committee to monitor the exercise and ensure that the items were not sold in the market by dubious persons.
He stressed the need for the government at all levels to be pro-active in mitigating future occurrence during the on-going post flood impact assessments.
He called on farmers to reciprocate the governments’ good gesture by making judicious use of the items provided and not to re-sell them.
