CRISTIANO RONALDO : I won’t celebrate goal against United
CRISTIANO RONALDO will not celebrate if he scores when Manchester United meet European giants Real Madrid.
The Portuguese ace left Manchester for the Bernabeu for a world-record fee after winning three Premier Leagues titles and the Champions League with the United.
And he will line up against his former side for the first time in February when Alex Ferguson takes his team to Madrid.
The 27-year-old said: “I won’t celebrate if I score against United.
“I still speak with Ferguson. I miss him a lot, and I miss Manchester United. I felt very good there, it was like a family.
“I had six great years there and am still friends with my team-mates. It is thanks to Manchester United that I am here playing for Real Madrid. Without them, I wouldn’t be the player I am today.”
Ferguson joked that he is scouring the terms of Ronaldo’s £80million move to Madrid in 2009 to see if there is a clause about not playing against his former club.
He laughed: “Our contract with Real is that he can’t play against us.
“I think it would be a disgrace if he played against us. It would be no loyalty.”
Jokes aside, the Scot hopes his former winger gets a returning hero’s welcome when he steps out at Old Trafford.
He said: “When he comes on to the pitch at Old Trafford he will get a great reception, quite rightly, after that they can boo him as much as they like.
“You have to remember, he came here at 17 and developed himself into a great footballer.
“We are proud of the part we played in his career.
“To get six years out of a boy when he comes to us at 17, we have done very well.”
Ronaldo scored in both games against his former club Sporting Lisbon on the way to lifting the trophy with United in 2007-08 and didn’t celebrate either of them.
He even apologised to the home fans after scoring the winning goal in Lisbon.
