“It is not about Torres, we must improve” – Benitez angry after West Ham defeat

Chelsea’s interim manager, Rafa Benitez, says his team must improve quickly, after he watched them lose the first game under him to West Ham. Juan Mata had put the Blues in front, but Sam Allardyce’s men stormed back in the second half to win 3-1.

The Spanish coach also admitted his side are struggling in front of goal, but defended Fernando Torres, who has not scored in over 12 hours of football.

“To win, it’s simple,” he said. “In the first half we just had to score more goals. We have to improve.

“We know that football has two halves, the game has two halves. In the first half we had two or three chances – we just need to score more goals.

“I thought the team had chances, not just Fernando. When you are attacking and you are controlling the game like we did in the first half, you have to score goals.”
