One of the vital decisions taken by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday, during its weekly meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja was the approval of three new universities, to be established in the Northern part of the country to bring the number of universities owned by the Federal Government to 40.

The decision was disclosed by the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, and his Education counterpart, Ruqayyatu Rufa’i, at the end of the FEC meeting chaired by President Goodluck Jonathan.

The three new federal universities are to be located in Gashua, Birnin Kebbi and Gusau in Yobe, Kebbi and Zamfara States respectively.

Rufa’i said the establishment was in fulfilment of government’s policy of last year, to establish a federal university in every state in the country.

Aside this major decision, President Jonathan had charged the Ministers to move faster in actualising their set plans for the year.
